Highland Development Camp Figure Skating School Policies

The HDC Figure Skating School strictly adheres to Skate Canada Rules. The following is in addition to those rules and is expected that every skater and their parent(s), guardian(s) respect and follow them. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action by the School. Please remember these rules are in place for the betterment of the skaters’ learning and training environment. HDC Figure Skating School does NOT discriminate against any colour/nationality/age/sex/orientation or religion. It expects all their members to do the same.
  • Proper skating attire is required at all times:
    • CanSkaters are required to wear mittens or gloves, a CSA approved Hockey helmet (no ski or bike helmets) with a valid expiry date. NO jeans or sweatpants allowed.
    • StarSkate/Competitive skaters are required to wear proper skating attire.
Sitting or lying on the ice or climbing on the rink boards is strictly prohibited.
  • There is NO STANDING in groups on the ice. Skaters are reminded that the ice time is restricted and any skater just wasting time will be given a warning.
  • Bullying, bad manners, profanity, improper behavior or lack of consideration for others will NOT be tolerated. No show of temper on the ice or you will be asked to leave
  • Littering of the arena, dressing rooms or misuse of the facility is prohibited.
  • No chewing gum or eating on the ice.
  • Skaters are not permitted to handle any of the music equipment without express permission from the coach.
  • A coach’s request for music takes priority over all other requests for music.
  • NO personal electronic devices (iPods, iPads, cell phones, headphones etc.) are permitted on the ice.
  • Instructional paperwork/books/pads may not be used on the ice except by the coaches. Skaters may view these items at the boards only.
  • Skates must be worn on the ice at all times. NO shoes allowed on the ice.
  • Coaches are not to be interrupted UNLESS absolutely necessary.
  • Skaters are NOT to leave the ice surface without a coach’s permission.
  • Skaters are asked to use the restroom before coming on the ice or during their break.
  • Skaters can bring water, Kleenex, extra gloves, extra sweaters, or anything else that is needed on the ice at the start of each session.
  • There must be at least one coach in attendance before any skater is permitted on the ice.
  • Please feel free to sit in the warm room or up in the stands to watch your skater – Please refrain from standing by the glass at the gate.
  • Please no yelling at your skater while he/she is on the ice during their time. It can be very distracting and could even possibly cause an accident if you were to “startle” any other skaters.
  • Cheering is absolutely encouraged!!!
  • Please do NOT coach your skater during our school scheduled ice time. Coaches are accredited and will take care of your athlete.
  • If you have questions for the coach, please see her after all classes are completed on the ice. The ice time is precious and needs to be focused on the skater.
  • You can connect with the coach through Julia Gregoire and schedule a time to see her. The best time to speak to the coach is while your skater is attending off-ice.
  • Please ALWAYS check the bulletin board for any updates or exciting things planned.
  • To keep up to date on what is happening, we encourage you to read the monthly newsletter with your skater.
  • Please do NOT leave perishable food in your athletes locker. They can forget about it and then go rotten and stink up the coaches room
  • Please bring ALL proper skating attire for your athlete as we DO NOT have spares at the rink and your skater will not be allowed to attend until he/she has the proper attire.
  • Please have your athlete ready and dressed to go on the ice 5 mins before their scheduled time.
  • Any skater coming from a different Coach/Club MUST show proof of final payment as well as Letter of Dismissal from previous coach.
